A
great way to connect with the music, start a group, or obtain an
instrument is by building your own marimba... You can save money
too!
Group workshops can
be tailored to your specific time and schedule needs. For example,
a group rate can be arranged for teachers or students. Pro-D teachers
workshops can be condensed to 3 or 4 days.
Normally,
building a soprano, tenor, or baritone from scratch takes between
40 and 60 hours. The bass instrument is best shared between two
people. Upon completion of the workshop, a Zimbabwean piece will
be taught (time permitting).
You will need:
A woodworking shop that will accommodate up to 10 people
where the owner will receive compensation for the use of their
space. This could be in the form of a free workshop and/or a small
fee to cover wear and tear on equipment.
A timeframe that fits everyone's schedule. (Any combination
of days or evenings.)
A workshop fee of $350 per person.
Materials: Approximate wood and hardware costs
are: soprano $190, tenor $210, baritone $300, bass $450.
(Supplies can be purchased locally or I can obtain them
for you.)
